Everyone has their own answers. Family, friend, works, traveling, love, and many other possibilities. I would say, sharing, is one of my value of life. Through sharing, we acknowledge love. Moreover, we learn how to give without expecting a payback.

Few times ago, a man (noted, it is a man, not a boy) requested for a pompom course via our partners, www.fokado.com, an experience gift platform in Indonesia.

A man?! How can it is possible a man requested for a doll course? It felt so weird.

However, when I met him, I know the answer : He wanted a course cause he has a will to open a pompom shop. As I sat there and he kept asking if I felt insecured about that or not, i said no.

We share our skills and capabilities with others. That’s how life is. I will be more than happy if he can have his own shop.

In Indonesia, we have a beautiful, yet traditional, ring keeper. It is made from rattan and assembled manually by the craft man in west Java.

We can simply add the colors and decide if we want to add details, such as ribbon, dolls, and many other things.

These kind of goods are exported overseas and become popular among the handicraft lovers all around the world. Me, I am a big fan rattan, wood, and bamboo, so… I merge this two together : doll and rattan, as the ring keeper!

Salah satu kegiatan asyik mengisi liburan adalah dengan belajar membuat pompom. Kreatif, inovatif, dan mengembangkan imajinasi sang buah hati. Kegiatan ini dapat diikuti oleh anak-anak maupun dewasa.

Biasanya, si kecil akan dengan mudah membuat pompom dan langsung memiliki berbagai macam ide mengenai bentuk boneka dalam kepala mereka. Sriiippp!!! Mengejutkan betapa anak-anak usia dini, sudah memiliki berbagai macam ide luar biasa dalam benak mereka. Kadang, sebagai orang dewasa, kita kalah lho!

Beberapa hari lalu, Doll Inc memberikan kursus pompom pada penggemar kucing. Jadilah semua kreasinya berbentuk kucing. Mulai dari yang berukuran besar hingga kecil, semuanya adalah kucing.

Sang Adik pun tak mau kalah - harus bisa membuat boneka pompom!

Gather the pompom tool maker with the same size, usually it is signed by the same color.

Coupled the tool to be half circled.

Roll the wool string around the first half-circle maker until it is equally full and fat. Do the same step to the other half circle maker.

After both makers are rolled with wool, stick the lower part of the maker together and it will shape the full circle.

Cut the wool string that is located on the border of the maker.

After cutting all the wool string, tie it with another free string and open the tool maker. Cut the wool to have a perfect pompom doll.

I was shocked in a positive way and happy at the same time. The only issue was they required me to come to the studio, directly on the next day at noon time. What a life of media! They do everything on the deadlines.

How did they find me ?

They found me through www.fokado.com, a site that sells experience as a gift. I put “making dolls workshop” as a gift for someone who wants to give something to their lovers, friends, kids, or everyone on their special moment. So, they found me through the website.

Fokado sends a red box which has a gift certificate in it. The gift certificate can be used for particular experience that has been picked by the buyer. It is a very unique way to give a present : not material but experiences, especially in Indonesia as they are the pioneer here for experience gift.

How was the process ?

I arrived at 11.30 in the morning and stayed at the studio for 3.5 hours. As this was not the first time for me (and doll-inc) in media – so learning from the past  – I had learned that nothing is on time and the shooting process would take a very long time. I brought everything I need and enjoy all the shooting process with a happy smile – no matter how long it was. However the shooting process itself took only 1 hour and 30 mins in total.

The talk show was hosted by three famous Indonesian host and two other movie stars. I was so happy to meet them. They, who I usually watch in TV only, sat with me and talked with me at the time. I was more than happy to meet those amazing star of my country.

I will be on the show for 8 minutes (the duration of whole show is 60 mins). Such a very short time, huh! hehehhe. However, it was still a fantastic experience for me to sit there and being with all the great actors and actress.

The other guest is a woman who makes cupcakes. I saw the cupcakes and it was very nice and cute. So cute that you feel like you can not eat it as you will break it if you eat it. Unfortunately, I did not get any chance to taste it as when they finished the shooting, all the cakes were gone. #just another proof of how good the cake is hahahhaha#

How this gives me more confidence…

Well… after the second time in television, I feel much confidence with this craft industry. I mean, it starts from my love in dolls – okay! i have lots of dolls in my room and I still sleep with my favorite doll since I was 8 years old – and now it turns to be a business. It is even more better when people call me and ask to teach them how to make it. It is more than better, it is like one of the best thing that happens in my life.

I will not state that Doll Inc is a big company or what, but.. .the acceptance from people is the most valuable support for me.

Doll Wears Kebaya

Kebaya is the traditional clothes of Indonesian woman, especially Javanese. Back to hundred years ago, Kebaya was brought by Arabian who traded in Indonesia and surrounding areas. It is believed that the origin of Kebaya is Saudi Arabia.

However, when Dutch colonize Indonesia, kebaya used to be worn by Dutch ladies who stay in Indonesia. As time went by, kebaya started to take the popularity when the first president of Indonesia, Soekarno, picked kebaya as the national costume. Moreover, kebaya was always used by R.A Kartini, known as the woman emancipation role in Indonesia. She always used kebaya in all of her pictures.

Now days, kebaya becomes more modern and set to meet the current condition needs. Not only as a formal uniform for national ceremony or wedding ceremony, but also for fashion. Some designers start to design modern kebaya that can be worn for working days or casual occasions. Although many of young woman refuse to wear kebaya in all occasion, we highly respect kebaya as our national costume.

Back to that background, Doll Inc pick kebaya as the first traditional clothes for our doll. We believe that kebaya will be popular again in the future, not only among Javanese, but also around the Indonesia, or even, around the world.

This is going to be our Indonesian collection, hopefully can be shown internationally, so that Indonesian culture will be well known and famous in the world.

Salah satu negeri yang kami kunjungi adalah Italia, tempat asal muasal boneka kayu terkenal, Pinokio.

Pinokio merupakan boneka kayu yang replikanya dijual di seluruh wilayah Italia, selatan hingga bagian utara. Lucunya, Pinokio yang dijual di sini hanya merupakan miniatur yang dijadikan boneka puppet atau boneka wayang, bukannya boneka berukuran besar yang dapat dipeluk manusia.

Menelaah seni di negara ini membuat aku tidak  sabar untuk segera berkarya. Andai saja nilai seni di Indonesia dihargai seperti masyarakat Utalia menghargai karya seni, wah….. Pasti negeri kita akan kebanjiran seniman-seniman muda.

Di begeri ini, berbahai seniman duduk di jalan umum unTuk melukis jalan raya atau duduk-duduk untuk memainkan alat musik. Bahkan di daerah Florence, ada seirang bapak tua yang memainkan musik italy secara acapella a.k.a dengan pwrmainan mulutnya.

Pokoknya, negeri asal Pinokio ini merupakan negeri eksotis yang kaya akan seniman, deh!

Pokoknya, begitu sampai Jakarta, doll inc akan mengeluarkan koleksi baru!

Sabar ya….. Masih beberapa minggu sampai kami kembali ke tanah air tercinta
